The reason why Jürgen Klopp refuses to sign a new goalkeeper this season

Jürgen Klopp is set to give Danny Ward a chance in goal ahead of Loris Karius after the German made yet another error between the sticks against Tranmere.

In his last three games for Liverpool, Karius has been directly at fault for three goals; two in the Champions League final against Real Madrid and one against Tranmere Rovers in the Reds’ second pre-season friendly this summer.

As is understandable, the majority of supporters are incredibly unhappy with Karius being Liverpool’s no.1 and with Simon Mignolet heading for the Anfield exit, the best solution would be to dip into the transfer market for a new gloveman.

Yet, Klopp has reportedly decided to hand Danny Ward the chance to prove himself as he is “impressed by the increased maturity Ward has shown since arriving back for pre-season training.”

This surprising and unpleasant news comes from the Mirror’s increasingly reliable Dave Maddock, who writes that Klopp’s view of Ward “contrasts with last summer when the keeper was deemed to have come back from a successful loan spell with Huddersfield not in peak condition.”

Ward has been “outstanding” in both training and the first two pre-season friendlies so far this month and has prompted the Liverpool manager to seriously consider making the Welsh goalkeeper his no.1 for the 2018/19 season.

Maddock goes on to say that Klopp has even ruled out a move for a goalie this summer, with the Reds continuously linked with AS Roma’s Alisson, who has a £60 million price tag.
