After being linked with over 20 wingers this summer, Liverpool have finally signed one.

The Switzerland international was announced as having completed his move to Liverpool via the club’s social channels and will wear the no.23 now vacated by Emre Can after he moved to Juventus.

While it may have taken him awhile to finally move to Anfield, his arrival is a great boost to Jürgen Klopp’s squad as far as depth in attacking options is concerned.

After being announced, Shaqiri said: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s a huge club with big history, big players and a fantastic coach. So I’m really glad and happy to be here.”

Shaqiri will occupy a squad role to provide cover in case either Sadio Mané or Mohamed Salah get injured or suspended next season as well as to allow Klopp the opportunity to rotate without sacrificing too much quality.

Signing for a fee of £135 million after the Reds activated his relegation release clause, the Reds have ensured they found a bargain to free up space both in terms of funds for other transfers as well as on the wage bill.
